No! We absolutely love having newbies join us here at Jones’. The gym, exercise and fitness should be for everyone and we specialise in getting people started on the road to the best version of themselves. We even do a ‘Reset’ class that is designed to be a little more gentle. Of course, if you are experienced but still want any help or advice, we’re here for that too.
Tell us! It is completely normal to feel nervous when starting something new and the gym can be even worse for many of us. Just let us know and we will make sure we look after you with a cup of coffee and a chat to start things off. Remember, everyone starts off as a newbie so you have nothing to worry about.
The main gym has all the usual cardio suspects as well a variety of racks, weights machines, barbells and dumbbells. Lifting platforms, GHD (glute hamstring developer), assault runners and echo bikes are amongst some of the other more bespoke bits of equipment that we believe make our gym even better.
Without getting in to the science too much, it is all about calories in vs calories out. In other words, the amount of food you eat compared to the amount you burn through exercise and every day functional will determine if you are gaining weight or losing weight. We have found that a mix of high intensity work (strike, bike, exert) with weights based sessions (lift, power, gym work) get great results and keep people motivated. Remember, if you are motivated to come, you are far more likely to build a habit.
The world health organisation recommends that adults aged 18–64 year should do at least 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity; or at least 75–150 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity. In terms of sessions, that could be between 2-4 sessions per week.
Yes, we can help guide you. In fact, we can help set calorie and macronutrient targets as well as providing you with some useful tools along the way. Jones’ Platinum members get a FREE recipe book each month which has over 30 different meals included.

Every month we encourage our members to hit 1300 MEPs (myzone effort points) which is the equivalent to the World Health Organisations recommended amount of exercise per month.
